The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is the global forum for business leaders in travel and tourism, one of the world’s largest industries. Finance Director, Jason Norman, explains:
The challenge:
“Following a change of CEO last year, we identified that our HR responsibilities were not being fully managed. Rather than create a full-time position, what we needed was an agile firm of HR consultants who could work intensively with us in the early days to put a solid foundation in place, then provide one or two days a month of ongoing support. We shortlisted a number of firms to ‘audition’ and Taylor HR Solutions stood out by a mile – their professionalism and all-round competence immediately inspired our confidence and trust.”
The response:
“THRS started by outlining what was required from us for compliance purposes, such as bringing contracts up to date with legislative changes, and in response to their health and safety audit, we now have a full H&S system in place, too. They also introduced a cloud-based solution called HR Locker that securely stores all our personnel records and makes them accessible online. Amidst these activities, we restructured our team which regrettably meant a number of redundancies. THRS handled the process sensitively and effectively, from dealing with the legal implications to sympathetically addressing the more emotive concerns. They also offered follow-up support in the form of exit interviews, counselling and career coaching – expertise we wouldn’t have been able to provide internally.”
The verdict:
“The difference with THRS is that, unlike a single consultant, there is always a team member available to help or advise, and everyone is fully briefed and prepared so you can expect consistency and continuity throughout. THRS is almost an invisible partner, there whenever you need them, which has proven to be very cost-effective. Their sterling work during our restructuring avoided the expense of grievance procedures, so has paid for itself many times over. Our ongoing expenditure is modest because they’ve organised us so well, fully justifying our investment in the first nine months. Looking ahead, THRS will be helping us with psychometric team profiling and I’m currently working with Peter on recruitment. His standing in the industry enables him to bring in the kind of high-level individuals that will help to drive our organisation forward.”
